Title: “Alluring Desires”

Scripture: Mark 4:18-19

And others are the ones on whom seed is sown among the thorns; these are the ones who have heard the word, and the worries of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

Observation: What is God saying to me?

The scripture is full of words that if listened to will keep us on the right path. The path of God is one of great blessing and fruitfulness. When you live as a friend of God in a world that is not friendly toward God you have many things that seek to steal your fruitfulness. When you are a follower of God you are also led down paths that many in the world will boldly stand against. These words are a prescription for what to watch out for. Be on guard for the tricks of the enemy, he is always looking to get you off track through placing alluring desires before you that will steal your joy and fruitfulness.

Application: What will I do about it?

Jesus came to give us life in abundance. This doesn’t mean it will be easy, but life will be the result of not taking the bait of chasing desires that want to steal the throne of your heart. Keep your life closely tied to Jesus and hold on tightly to Him in good times and bad and the result will be fruit that flows inside of you. It will also cause heavenly fruit to grow around you, which are lives that are being yielded and transformed by the love of Jesus Christ.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, help me to identify the desires that war against my heart being closely tied to you. Help me to put those desires in their proper place and give me a heart that is wholly committed to your ways. In Jesus’ name.
