Neal’s Lit Word

Title: “Get Them Back!”

Scripture: Proverbs 25:21-22

'If your enemies are hungry, give them food to eat. If they are thirsty, give them water to drink. You will heap burning coals of shame on their heads, and the Lord will reward you.'

Observation: What is God saying to me?

Responding to opposition and hatred from enemies or people who are against you with hatred only adds fuel to the fire. Instead, do something counterintuitive to what you naturally want to do and LOVE. This burns the haters and enemies to the core and as the verse says, “the Lord will reward you.”

Application: What will I do about it?

This applies to so many areas of life. The bottom line is this. Responding with love and kindness is always the right response. It brings about a deep correction to the hater and a blessing for you. This does not mean that you have to “be friends.” It simply is a way to respond to hate and opposition.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, You modeled this kind of love perfectly when you walked the earth. You could have responded with violence but instead you responded with peace. When people spit on You, slapped You and crucified You, You trusted Your Father in heaven would make things right. He did! You are the example we choose to follow. Help us as we try. Amen!
