Title: “Heart Attacks”
Scripture:
John 2:24 But Jesus, on His part, was not entrusting Himself to them, for He knew what was in their hearts.
In this next passage, Samson’s wife was clouded by the enemy and sought to extract all the secrets of Samson’s strength that were in his heart. ⬇️
Judges 16:15 Then she said to him, “How can you say, ‘I love you,’ when your heart is not with me? You have deceived me these three times and have not told me where your great strength is.” 16 It came about when she pressed him daily with her words and urged him that his soul was annoyed to death. 17 So he told her all that was in his heart.
Observation: What is God saying to me?
This was a mistake on Samson’s part. Delilah was twisted in her thinking and did not truly love or care about Samson. She manipulated him to discover things about him to use it against him.
In John 2:24 Jesus teaches you a great lesson. You cannot trust everyone with everything that is in your heart. You have to test people before you trust people. Even after testing, peoples hearts can become clouded by the enemy and use what is in your heart against you. Be careful with your heart. Test before you trust. Once you discover that people actually care for you with intentions that are good, then you can trust them even more.
When people make mistakes forgive them and test them again. Trust Me fully and Me alone. I will give you wisdom and discernment to know who to share your heart with and who to keep at a distance from your heart. This is wisdom. It’s foolish to share your heart with everyone because you have no clue what is in their heart. Do not fear, I will give you wisdom. Seek Me and I will show you the way.
Application: What will I do about it?
The Holy Spirit is your One true and faithful companion. Lean into Him for wisdom today and ask Him to reveal who to bring closer and who to keep at a distance. Love everyone, but do not trust your heart to everyone.
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, We need Your wisdom to guide us through the relationships of life. With this wisdom we can walk in faith, fearing only You. Teach us that it’s ok to keep some closer than others. Thank You for the lessons that I’ve learned through heart attacks. In Jesus’ name. Amen
