Neal’s Lit Word

Title: “Pinned to the wall”

Scripture: 1 Samuel 18:6-11

6 When the men were returning home after David had killed the Philistine, the women came out from all the towns of Israel to meet King Saul with singing and dancing, with joyful songs and with timbrels and lyres. 7 As they danced, they sang:
“Saul has slain his thousands,
and David his tens of thousands.”
8 Saul was very angry; this refrain displeased him greatly. “They have credited David with tens of thousands,” he thought, “but me with only thousands. What more can he get but the kingdom?” 9 And from that time on Saul kept a close eye on David.
10 The next day an evil spirit from God came forcefully on Saul. He was prophesying in his house, while David was playing the lyre, as he usually did. Saul had a spear in his hand 11 and he hurled it, saying to himself, “I’ll pin David to the wall.” But David eluded him twice.

Observation: What is God saying to me?

Is there anyone that you are trying to “pin to the wall?”
Is anyone trying to “pin you to the wall?”

In this story, Saul got jealous of David because David was getting more recognition and “credit” than Saul was. Saul thought he deserved more credit than what he was being given. This jealousy opened up the door for an evil spirit to attach itself to Saul.

Some of you have an evil spirit that could be causing you to seek to “pin someone to the wall.” Others of you are the target of this evil spirit that is trying to “pin you to the wall.”

The answer for both is the same. Trust in Me (the Lord). Seek Me with all your heart. Allow Me to cleanse your heart, point out your shortcomings and lead you to a place of peace and rest.

Application: What will I do about it?

The answer for both questions is the same. Repent of pride and selfishness. Trust in Me (the Lord). Seek Me with all your heart. Allow Me to cleanse your heart, point out your shortcomings and lead you to a place of peace and rest. (search your mind to see if you are holding anything against anyone) Release it now.

Prayer:

Jesus, You were the model of selflessness. You also modeled how to deal with attacks with integrity. Help us to connect to you and be more like you so that we can walk in a relationship without jealousy, pride or envy being the boss. You are the boss, we are Your servants. In Jesus name.

I Am Grateful For… revealed attacks and right responses.
