Neal’s Lit Word

Title: “Motives Matter!”

Scripture: Proverbs 16:2,3

2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own sight,
But the Lord weighs the motives.
3 Commit your works to the Lord
And your plans will be established.

Observation: What is God saying to me?

Motives matter! Even if your ways look right, they could be coming from motives that are wrong. If your motives are coming from selfishness, greed, or to be seen by others then they are off. Even though it may look good on the outside, if your internal motives are off then your motives are not clean.
The answer is this… commit your works to Me (the Lord). Focus your intentions on what you do on Me and then your plans will enjoy lasting success. Even if the timing doesn’t seem right to you, I will cause you to be fruitful at the right time.

Application: What will I do about it?

To master motives it requires internal awareness. Just like steering a car while driving we have to keep a close eye on our hearts and minds allowing the Holy Spirit to point out internal course corrections. Lean on the Holy Spirit as a GPS system for the heart today. When He points out messed up motives, repent and submit once again to the Lord.

Prayer:

Jesus, check the motivations of our hearts. We want to serve You fully and humbly. Reveal and renew our motives to match with Yours. Amen
