Neal’s Lit Word

Title: “Set the Example”

Scripture: 2 Chronicles 17:3,4

3 The Lord was with Jehoshaphat because he followed the example of his father David’s earlier days and did not seek the Baals, 4 but sought the God of his father, followed His commandments, and did not act as Israel did.

Observation: What is God saying to me?

What you need more than anything is for Me (the Lord) to be with you.
As it says in 2 Chronicles 15:2 “The Lord is with you when you are with Him. And if you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.”

The Lord was with Jehoshaphat because he followed the good example of David’s earlier years. In the earlier years of David’s life he became known as a man after God’s heart. Though David made mistakes, the overall trajectory of his actions and intentions was toward God.

What example are you following? Equally important, what example are you setting? Do not assume that God is with you. God is with those who by faith except the gift of Jesus and by faith in action pursue Jesus with their heart, soul, mind and strength. You won’t be perfect in your effort by any stretch, but you must be sincere in the effort!

Application: What will I do about it?

Be with Him…. really with Him. Is there anything that needs to be fasted in order to not be with Him? What distracts you from being with God?

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for loving us and desiring to be with us. Teach us Jesus how to truly stay close to you in body, mind and spirit. Amen!
