Title: Pride is Prowling

Scripture: 1 Peter 5:6-9
Humble yourselves, therefore under the mighty hand of God that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety upon Him because He cares for you. Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Observation: What is God saying to me?
Pride was the primary stumbling block that caused Satan to be kicked out from the presence of God. What is pride at its core? Self absorption. Being self absorbed is pride. Selfishness and a “me” mentality are a primary part of the trap the devil is setting for us.

He is prowling around setting traps to get us caught in pride.

Application: What will I do about it?
Anxiety sometimes causes us to take matters into our own hands. The problem is, our hands are not the best place for these matters to be. Whatever matters you are seeking to take into your own hands need to be given to God. Pride says, “I know and I’ve got this, let me handle it!” Humility says, “I need help and Lord show me what to do here.”

When we deeply trust God with the matters of our lives that is humility.
When we recognize that God’s mighty hand can move any matter that is giving us trouble that is trust. When we trust Him with all of our worries and anxiety it pleases the heart of God. Pride is always trying to “make” things happen and “take” matters into its own hands, humility is trusting the Lord with everything that matters.

Today I will resist the temptation to fall into pride and trust the Lord by not taking matters into my own hands.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for always looking out for my best interests. You know what I need and what I don’t. I’ll trust you to show me the difference. Teach me to enjoy the fruit of deep and abiding trust. In Jesus Name. Amen.
