Neal’s Lit Word

Title: “Turn Toward Correction”

Scripture: 2 Chronicles 26:4,5,16

4 And he (Uzziah, a 16 year old), did right in the sight of the Lord. 5 And he continued to seek God and as long as he sought the Lord, God prospered him.
16 But when he became strong, his heart was so proud (lifted up), that he acted corruptly, and he was unfaithful to the Lord his God.

Observation: What is God saying to me?

Pride, or lifting oneself up is what happens before a fall or destruction. Turning away from My (God’s) ways will eventually lead to undoing. Uzziah, as a young king, through humility did what was right in My sight. As a result, I prospered the work of his hands and the nation around him benefited.

Once he became “strong” in his own sight he then took matters into his own hands and thought himself to be secure because of his strength. Corruption and disobedience follow pride and arrogance. I, the Lord, humble the proud but give unconditional love to the humble.
You can judge your heart based on your actions. If your actions are not aligning with My ways, then you may have a heart problem. I have grace for a humble heart, but I have correction for an arrogant, self centered heart.

Guard your heart by keeping it close to My heart. Knit yourself next to Me and allow Me to help you protect your heart. Stray from Me and corrections will be coming your way. I correct those I love, don’t turn away when I correct you, rather turn to Me and find grace for your shortcomings.

Application: What will I do about it?

Open up your walk with God by intentionally spending time with Him. Speak to Him more than you speak to anyone else. Invite Him to search your heart to see if there are any breakdowns that allow the enemy in. When you see the breakdown, repair the wall through prayer, repentance and wholeheartedly seeking God.

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, our very present help in every situation. We turn our hearts toward you, not away from you. Without Your protection we cannot succeed in the mission You have given us. Lord, break our hearts for the distance we put between ourselves and Your Spirit, as individuals, families and as a nation. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

I Am Grateful For… a heart that breaks to be close to God.
