Neal’s Lit Word
Title: “Blisters or Bliss”
Scripture: Proverbs 18:22
He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord.
Observation: What is God saying to me?
It’s a good thing! I use the marriage relationship to bless you, change you and teach you how to serve and follow Me. You should not approach your relationship with one foot in and out. My devotion to you is “all in” and your devotion to your spouse must be too.
When it comes to knowing who should be your spouse, you are not supposed to try it before you buy it. It’s not a sexual sampling session so that you can know the flavor that you like.
When I speak to you and show you the one I have designed for you, go all in!
1️⃣ Do not withhold, or “hold out” your love while they become the person of your dreams. That is how marriage turns into a nightmare.
2️⃣ Be fully devoted to loving this person just as I have loved you, even in your imperfection.
3️⃣ Make it your top priority to meet your spouse's spiritual, emotional and physical needs, serving one another as I have served you.
4️⃣ Serve when you don’t feel like it and give even when you don’t feel they are putting in the same effort you are.
When you love like this, you will learn more deeply how to walk in My character. When you love like this, blessing and favor flow from My Spirit to the innermost part of your being.
Application: What will I do about it?
If you are searching for a spouse, ask the Lord to lead you. Focus on becoming the person that someone you are searching for will love and respect. “When the student is ready the teacher appears.” “When you are ready, Your spouse will appear.” Get ready.
If you have a spouse, set aside all records of wrongs as well as character defects you dislike. Clean the slate and love like it says in 1 Corinthians 13. Bear all things. Believe all things. Endure all things. Love never fails.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for choosing marriage as the ultimate training ground. Through marriage You shape us more closely into your image. Help those who are getting ready for marriage to take the task seriously. Help those who are in a marriage to not turn from their commitment when the going gets tough. In Jesus’ Name! Amen
I Am Grateful For… Blessing and favor through marriage.
